Massacre in Shan State
Shan State, Burma
13 June 2023
Dear people who care,
We just sent a report of six people killed and now need to report more. A total of 26 villagers have been killed by the Burma Army in Moebya, southern Shan State. Between 6 and 8 June 2023, 14 villagers were killed, shot to death, by the Burma Army in Moebya, southern Shan State. The Burma Army is occupying the northern part of the town, near a pagoda, and all of these people were killed in this part of Moebya. During this same time, 12 more were killed by mortar fire in the Moebya area.
Villagers found the bodies of six civilians shot by the Burma Army and know that there are five more who have been killed, but they’ve been unable to retrieve the bodies due to the Burma Army still being present – anyone who goes near could be shot down themselves. There is drone footage of one of these bodies, shot in the head, lying in the pagoda grounds. Villagers found three more bodies that had evidently been forced to kneel and shot point-blank in the head. These 14 were killed between 7 and 8 June near Moebya. In the last two weeks, in this same area, 12 more villagers have been killed by mortars as the Burma Army heavily attacks this area.
In the same time period, 20 other villagers have been wounded. Most of the people from here have fled but some villagers stay because they said they have no other way to live, and have their fields around the towns. FBR teams are actively working to help safely evacuate civilians who remain in the area. Please pray that the attacks would stop – the Burma Army’s hearts would change or they would be pushed back – and that the people who live here would survive and be able to return to their homes. Please pray for comfort for the families of those who have already lost their lives.
Thanks and God bless you,
Dave, family and FBR
