Mosul December 2016: Food, Fuel, and Love
December 30, 2016
Mosul, Northern Iraq
“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV
Dear all,
Thanks for the support and prayers as the mission continues in Mosul. As the Iraqi army resupplies and regroups for the next assault to push to the Tigris River our team has continued the food distribution and medical support for the soldiers and civilians. Thanks to the support of some wonderful friends, we have begun to distribute kerosene to the civilians whose area has been liberated.
During these winter months fuel for cooking and heating is so needed for the thousands of families staying in the war-torn city. The situation has continued to be desperate for the people of Mosul who choose to stay. Bullets and mortars continue to land in their neighborhoods, and the people are scrambling to pull together food, milk, diapers, blankets, and heaters. We have been working to meet these needs. Thank you for all the supporters and partners that have taken great risk to help us help these people.
Despite this one lady came to tell us that “ISIS is better than you, they gave us more food.” One Iraqi helping us replied ISIS is one kilometer to the west. You are free to join them. And she said “no they will kill me”. This is an exception but a good example of the harsh and twisted world the people in Mosul have been living in. God has great mercy for these people and we pray that the Truth will set them free.
To date we have been able to give month long rations to 1,200 families, Hygiene supplies and milk for babies for another 300 families, and fuel for an additional 300 families. In the coming days there will be thousands more as the Iraqi army starts the offensive this week. We thank God for the openness of the people and the ability to share good news with them as well as provide bibles and picture books to families that desire them.
Prayer would be appreciated in the best way to move forward as we move into the city and meet new displaced peoples.
God bless you,
Dave D, Dave E Family, and FBR
