Burma Army Attacks in Northern Burma: An In-depth Report of March 2022

Kachin State, northern Shan State, and Sagaing Region, Burma
Kachin State, northern Shan State and areas of the Sagaing region had a full month of conflict between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Burma Army. The KIA reports a total of 86 military attacks in these regions during the month of March. The KIA reports the People’s Defense Force (PDF) joined with the KIA as a combined force in opposition to the Burma Army on 10 occasions this month. Additionally, the PDF opposed the Burma Army independently on five different occasions. The KIA and PDF predominantly used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and remote mines to cut off and attack the Burma Army in transit. In contrast, the Burma Army attacked KIA, PDF, and village areas using a variety of heavy artillery. On four different reported occasions, the Burma Army attacked KIA and PDF groups with the support of aircraft: two helicopters, one jet, and one drone. The Burma Army conducted multiple humanitarian rights abuses towards civilians during the month of March as well. Casualties and injuries occurred within both the KIA and Burma Army, but exact numbers are not available at this time.
Attack Reports
Kachin State, Burma
Putao Township
On March 1 at 0900 hrs, KIA soldiers from 7th Battalion patrolling around I Hkahku (LK 656 772) clashed with Burma Army soldiers, leaving one KIA soldier wounded in the leg. At 1312 hrs, there was also a clash at coordinates LK 652 770, near the road between Sumpyi Yang and Wa Dat Ga, in Putao township. At 1440 hrs, two jets from Myitkyina strafed and dropped bombs at the clash site and Sumpyi Yang Post.
On March 3 between 1750-1900 hrs, KIA soldiers defended against an offensive of Burma Army troops toward Sumpyi Yang Post (LK 656 733). Burma Army soldiers shelled Sumpyi Yang village, causing three houses to catch fire, in Putao township.
On March 4 between 0645-0800 hrs, Burma Army troops attacked KIA Sumpyi Yang Post. At 1230 hrs, KIA soldiers decamped the post, in Putao township.
Mansi Township
On March 1 between 0700-0712 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from Balawng Dingsa Base fired two 81mm mortar rounds to the side of Maw Wun (LG 440 413), in Mansi township.
On March 7 between 1515-1530 hrs, fighting broke out when PDF fired at around 60 Burma Army soldiers from Infantry Battalion (IB) 10, coming from Man Wing (KG 707 712) at coordinates KG 709 721 between Man Wing and Simu Gyi, in Mansi township.
On March 8 between 0910-1300 hrs, a clash broke out when KIA soldiers opened fire on around 100 combined Burma Army soldiers from IB 10 and 121 coming on foot with a truckload of food rations from Mung Hkawng Base at Tintan Kawng (LG 230 497), in Mansi township.
On March 10 at 0945 hrs, KIA soldiers from 27th Battalion used remote mines between Bang Hkung Yang bridge and Maw Swi Jawng Kawng by, in Mansi township, to attack around 80 combined Burma Army soldiers of IB (223) and LIB (424) coming from Hka Kan village (LG 417 293).
On March 12 between 0850-1400 hrs, there was a clash between combined Burma Army troops of IB (121) and LIB (301) and KIA soldiers from 27th Battalion at coordinates: LG 220 487, outskirts of Laika Zup Ja village, in Mansi township.
On March 13 at 1120 hrs, over 30 Burma Army soldiers taking security on Lagat Daw road while heading on foot to Man Wing Kawng Hkang Post, were attacked with six remote mines at coordinates: LG 533 412, on the outskirts of Lagat Daw village, in Mansi township.
On March 19 between 1615-1640 hrs, defensive fighting broke out when around 40 Burma Army soldiers from IB (276) coming from Kung Ma Hkan carried out an offensive to Gaw Ngu Kawng (KG 705 078) where combined forces of KIA 12th Battalion and PDF were stationed. Burma Army soldiers fired ten 81mm mortar rounds from KG 635 013 near Nan Pung Pung to Gaw Ngu Kawng, in Mansi township.
On March 20 between 0915-1100 hrs, IB (276) fired eleven 81mm mortar rounds from KG 635 013 near Nan Pung Pung to Gaw Ngu Kawng (KG 705 078) near Pin Chying, in Mansi township.
On March 26 at 0910 hrs, KIA soldiers from 27th Battalion attacked a big truck carrying food ration and supplies and ten of on foot combined soldiers from IB (121) and LID (88) coming from Hanhtet monastery with IEDs at LG 199 595 near Pat Kwi, in Mansi township.
On March 28 between 0330-0730 hrs, by KIA soldiers from 27th Battalion attacked around 120 Burma Army soldiers from IB (47 and 121) coming on foot from Mung Hkawng Base with IEDs on the outskirts of Zup Ja village and in a paddy field of Zup Ja. Burma Army soldiers fired nine 81mm mortar rounds to Tin Tan Kawng from Mung Hkawng Base, in Mansi township.
On March 28 at 1625 hrs, LIB (437) fired nine mortar/artillery rounds around Wabaw-Chyari, in Mansi township.
On March 28 at 1810 hrs, a military truck carrying food ration and supplies coming from Mung Hkawng Base was attacked with IEDs at head of Quarter (1) of Mung Hkawng village by KIA soldiers.
Hpakant Township
On March 3, the bodies of twelve civilians were unearthed and three backhoes were pulled out from the twenty five civilians and three backhoes that were swept away by a mudslide caused by a jade mining landslide on Feb. 28 at 2100 hrs. in Hpakant township.
On Mar 4 at 2300 hrs, around 40 Burma Army soldiers led by Maj. Min Thu from IB (272) stationed at Namsi Bum detained civilians: Ko Ma Htaw and Daw Aye San after they found a wire used to connect an IED, while searching their houses in Hpakant township.
On March 5 at 0500 hrs, KIA soldiers from 44th Battalion attacked seven truckloads of gas barrels and twenty trucks carrying Burma Army soldiers coming from Meza with IEDs between Tin Pin and Naba. As the trucks kept moving, the convoy was attacked with IEDs between Mohan and Mohe at 1420 hrs, in Hpakant township.
On March 7 at 1511 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from LIB (11) stationed at Mada Bum fired two 60mm mortar rounds and MG42 machine gun 50 times at Lawa Pa (old village). At 2100 hrs, two 60mm mortar rounds were fired to Nat Lit (mining area), in Hpakant township.
On March 8 at 1915 hrs, Burma Army’s two armored tanks and twelve trucks carrying troops coming from southern division were attacked with fifteen IEDs between Nam manna and Tawng Ni, commanded by KIA soldiers from 9th Brigade, in Hpakant township. As the convoy kept going, it was attacked again with IEDs at Mogoung 3-Mile road junction by KIA soldiers from 44th Battalion.
On March 9 between 1800-1930 hrs, around 60 Sharaw Hka residents held a candle light procession to demonstrate against the Burma Army in the Sharaw Hka village, in Hpakant township.
On March 13, Burma Army soldiers removed the Kamaing checkpoint and upgraded Nam Ya checkpoint and taxed 300,000 kyats per truck carrying barrels of fuel and taxed 20,000 kyats per barrel, in Hpakant township.
On March 14 at 1916 hrs, LIB (12) stationed at Nam Ya fired a 60mm mortar round to the side of Woi Bum, in Hpakant township.
On March 20 at 2204 hrs, LIB (11) stationed at Mada Bum fired six 79mm grenade launchers to Nat Lik Ja Maw, in Hpakant township.
On March 24 at 2050 hrs, Kayin Myaing LIB (384) fired five 82mm mortar rounds to the side of Marau Bum, in Hpakant township.
On March 25, around 30 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (116) were attacked with three IEDs at coordinates: KJ 209 283 near Hkang village between 0300-0500 hrs, by KIA soldiers from 26th Battalion, killing one and wounding seven others, in Hpakant township.
On March 26 at 1930 hrs, LIB (11) stationed at Mada Bum fired a 60mm mortar round and thirty small arms rounds to Lawa Pa, in Hpakant township.
On March 26 at 2100 hrs, PDF had clashed with LIB (368) at Hpawng Pin, leaving two Burma Army soldiers (a lieutenant and a sergeant) dead, in Hpakant township.
Monyin Township
On March 3 at 0915 hrs, the combined forces of KIA and PDF attacked a security truck with IEDs between Si Ping and Hpa Pang in Monyin township.
On March 5, the Burma Army truck convoy coming from the southern division were attacked at three locations: Na Ba, Pin We and Pin Ting by KIA soldiers from 35th Battalion. After the incidents, Burma Army soldiers allegedly arrested Mr. Tin Tun, Aung Aung and Win Aung Win being between Maw Han and Maw He and set afire Mr. Tin Tun’s house, in Monyin township.
On March 6 at 1700 hrs, five PDF with one KA81 rifle, three KA25 rifles and one 79mm grenade launcher traveling on an engine-boat from Hti Chyai were arrested near the river of Thapik Chyin, Sin Nyat Kung, in Monyin township.
On March 7 between 0742-0918 hrs, a clash broke out when KIA soldiers from 8th Brigade detonated IEDs on the convoy of truckloads carrying gas barrels and Burma Army soldiers coming from southern division, at coordinates KH 389 496 near Let Pan Tan village between Namma and Kwin Gyi villages, leaving around 20 Burma Army soldiers killed or injured, in Monyin township. At 0820 hrs, KIA soldiers clashed with around 30 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (415) arriving at Ye Aye Chaung.
On March 8 at 0310 hrs, fighting erupted when Monyin PDF attacked Burma Army soldiers occupying and positioned in Monyin University campus, leaving twelve Burma Army soldiers dead and seven wounded. The wounded soldiers were sent to Monyin hospital.
On March 19 between 0800-1100 hrs, there was a clash between combined forces of KIA 41st Battalion and PDF and Burma Army soldiers of an unknown unit at Hopin Nam Jun Pa, in Monyin township. There were casualties from both sides.
On March 20 at 2005 hrs, Hopin IB (40) Base fired eleven mortar rounds to KH 539 634, north-east of Yin Chyawng, in Monyin township.
On March 24 at 1650 hrs, LIB (386) fired more than forty rounds of 120mm mortar/105mm howitzer to Tawng Gan Bum, in Monyin township.
On March 27 at 0330 hrs, LIB (386) fired mortar rounds to eastern Nam Ma and eastern Monyin, leaving a civilian from Kayaji village wounded and a Buddhist temple near Monyin main road destroyed, in Monyin township.
Waimaw Township
On March 10 at 1400 hrs, four Burma Army soldiers (including an officer) were wounded by a landmine explosion which they stepped on between Uhkai Hkyet and Hkindu Post, in Waimaw township.
On March 12 at 1315 hrs, fighting broke out when KIA soldiers detonated three remote mines and fired RPG, 79mm grenade launcher and small arms at Burma Army soldiers with a bulldozer 150 meters from KIA’s Kinsa Kawng Post. Burma Army soldiers arriving at coordinates: LH 701 721 fired a 60mm mortar, a MG42 and a 79mm grenade launcher at KIA’s Hkindu Post, and then KIA soldiers returned with RPG and small arms. At 1625 hrs, Burma Army soldiers fired point-5 and around 90 soldiers carried out an offensive toward KIA Kinsa Post that led to heavy fighting, leaving around 20 Burma Army soldiers killed or injured. KIA soldiers withdrew from the Post to Kinsa Nhkang Post, in Waimaw township.
At 1421 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from Sama Base fired twenty 81mm mortar rounds, fifteen 60mm mortar rounds from Shang Hkawng Bum Post and ten 60mm mortar rounds from Pungling Base towards Kinsa Kawng Post.
At 1520 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from Kagam Bum Base fire two 105mm rounds; two 60mm rounds from Shang Hkawng Bum Base; fifteen 60mm rounds, MG42 and Point-5 from Sama Base to KIA 251st Mobile Battalion’s Lungrawk Post. KIA soldiers returned ten 82mm rounds, four 40mm mortar rounds and 100mm rounds to LH 696699; and eight 60mm mortar rounds and seventeen 116mm rounds to Sama Base.
On March 13 at 0730 hrs, Burma Army soldiers with a bulldozer arriving at Kinsa Kawng approached the Uhkai Hkyet Post and at 0957 hrs, fighting broke out when Burma Army soldiers fired RPG, 79mm and MA-2 to the Post. During the clash, Burma Army soldiers supported point .5, nine 81mm mortar rounds from Sama Base, eight 60mm mortar rounds from Shang Hkawng Bum and 7 60mm mortar rounds from Pung Ling and MG-42 from Kinsa Kawng. The clashes paused between 1030-1156 hrs, in Waimaw township.
At 1157 hrs, Burma Army troops carried out an offensive toward Uhkai Hkyet and seven 60mm mortar rounds and three 105mm rounds and 20 120mm rounds from Wabyen Bum (LH 630 726).
At 1224 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from Wabyen Bum (LH 630 726) fired three 120mm rounds; from Kagam Bum fired three 105mm rounds at KIA 1st Mobile Brigade, landing one shell at coordinates: LH 714 639 where Chinese border policemen fetch water, near Ura village.
Between 1350-1359 hrs, a bulldozer stopping between Kinsa Kawng and Uhkai Hkyet was driven back under cover of MG42 fire. At 1528 hrs, Burma Army soldiers stationed at Wabyen Bum fired three 120mm mortar rounds to the side of Uhkai Hkyet. During the fighting, KIA Artillery Unit of KIA 1st Mobile Brigade fired eight 82mm mortar rounds and thirteen 100mm rounds from LH 693 665 towards Kinsa Kawng; thirty-three 116mm rounds and three 60mm rounds from KIA 251st Mobile Battalion’s Lungrawk Kawng Post to Burma Army’s Sama Base; four 100mm rounds from LH 698 649 to Sama Jawng Kawng; thirteen 82mm rounds and a 60mm rounds from LH 714 688 to the area between Uhkai Hkyet and Kinsa Kawng; and five 60mm rounds and fifty 79mm rounds from Uhkai Hkyet Post. Six Burma Army soldiers were killed or injured in the attacks.
On March 14 at 1710 hrs, KIA soldiers from 251st Mobile Battalion attacked a truck carrying five Burma Army soldiers and supplies coming from Nhkram with six remote mines detonated at coordinates: LH 658 697 between Kagam and Shang Hkawng, leaving a truck destroyed. As the KIA soldiers continued to fire at the Burma Army soldiers, the supported fire of 60mm mortar rounds and MG42 were backed by Shang Hkawng Bum Base, in Waimaw township. Between 1723-1811 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from Wabyen Bum (LH 630 726) fired 105mm howitzer rounds to KIA 1st Mobile Brigade HQ. KIA soldiers returned five 100mm mortar rounds to Shang Hkawng Bum Base. Between 1711-1721 hrs, KIA soldiers from 251st Mobile Battalion fired twelve 116mm mortar rounds from Lung Rawk Kawng to Burma Army Sama Base.
On March 15 between 1350-1430 hrs, Burma Army soldiers fired nine 120mm mortar rounds from Wabyen Bum, and fifteen 60mm mortar rounds from Kinsa Kawng toward KIA Uhkai Hkyet Post. Between 1445-1510 hrs, Burma Army soldiers fired eleven 120mm mortar rounds from Kagam Base towards KIA Sum Hting Post and KIA 1st Mobile Brigade HQ, in Waimaw township.
On March 16 at 0705 hrs, Burma Army troops made a mortar artillery ground with a bulldozer at Kinsa Kawng. Between 0915-1240 hrs, Burma Army soldiers flew a drone over Kinsa Kawng and fired twenty-five 120mm mortar rounds and twenty 105mm howitzers from Wabyen Bum; four 60mm mortar rounds from Pungling Base; one hundred fifty 60mm mortar rounds, fourty RPG projectiles and seventy 79mm grenade launcher rounds from Kinsa Kawng to Uhkai Hkyet Post. KIA soldiers decamped their Uhkai Hkyet Post, in Waimaw township. Two KIA soldiers received minor injuries in the shell attacks.
Between 1240-1330 hrs, KIA soldiers from 251st Mobile Battalion fired eighteen 116mm mortar rounds to Sama Base from Lung Rawk Post and eleven 100mm mortar rounds and two 82mm mortar rounds to Kinsa Kawng and nine 60mm mortar rounds to Pungling Post and ten 82mm mortar rounds to Uhkai Hkyet.
On March 22 at 2352 hrs, a landmine exploded around coordinates: LH 485 370 between Lung Rawk Post and Masen Kawng. After that, Burma Army Artillery Unit (372) Base from Bum Re Bum fired three 105mm/120mm rounds at Laiza.
Shwegu Township
On March 13 at 0650 hrs, fighting broke out when Burma Army soldiers from LIB (415) stationed at Buddhist temple, Chong Wa village heading to take security along Mali Hka were attacked with IEDs by a combined forces of KIA 5th Battalion and PDF, in Shwegu township.
On March 17 at 1325 hrs, two big ships carrying Burma Army supplies from Mudale were fired at three 107mm mortar sounds at coordinates: KG 720 875 between Chauk Talaung and Shwe Bungta by KIA soldiers from 5th Battalion, in Shwegu township. At 1500 hrs, two ships reached Shwegu and drove away 1200 bags of rice and their 15 wounded soldiers.
On March 18 at 0400 hrs, there was a clash between PDF and Burma Army soldiers of an unknown unit near Mo Sit village, in Shwegu township.
On March 23 at 0700 hrs, Myula PDF attacked Burma Army troops of an unknown unit coming from Chaung Wa with IEDs near Min Jawng Kung, killing two and wounding five, in Shwegu township.
Momauk Township
On March 13 at 2030 hrs, Burma Army soldiers stationed at Namhpak Hka bridge post (LG 396 914) fired three 81mm mortar rounds at Mada Bum, the western part of KIA Lungja Bum Post, in Momauk township.
On March 27 between 1920-1930 hrs, Burma Army soldiers stationed at Salawng Kawng fired point .5 nearby in four rounds, in Momauk township.
Danai (Tanai) Township
On March 2 at 2040 hrs, Burma Army soldiers from LIB (318) stationed at Nam Gawn village indiscriminately fired two 81mm mortar rounds, two 60mm mortar rounds and three machine gun rounds to the sides of Danai Hka and north of Nam Gawn, in Danai township.
On March 11 at 2035 hrs, LIB (318) stationed at Nam Gawn village fired two 60mm mortar rounds and ten MG42 rounds to the sides of Nam Gawn Hka and Danai Hka Zup, in Danai township.
On March 13 at 2020 hrs, LIB (318) stationed at Nam Gawn village fired four 81mm mortar rounds toward Pat Maw, in Danai township.
On March 26 at 1235 hrs, KIA soldiers from 45th Battalion attacked around 50 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (390) with two IEDs near Tarung Hka bridge in Danai township.
On March 29 at 0710 hrs, after being relieved by LIB (390) at Tarung bridge post, Tarung village, around 35 Burma Army soldiers from IB (238) heading to Danai were attacked with a remote mine between Shimlum and Panyep, in Danai township.
Sumprabum Township
On March 15, Burma Army soldiers stationed at Sumpyi Yang fired four 60mm mortar rounds to Ntsi Yang, in Sumprabum township.
Mogung Township
On March 17 at 2204 hrs, Burma Army LIB (384) stationed at Kayin Myai fired three 82mm mortar rounds to the side of Maru Bum, in Mogoung township.
On March 18 at 1350 hrs, LIB (384) stationed at Kanyin Myai indiscriminately fired three 60mm mortar rounds after four landmines exploded near their base, in Mogoung township.
On March 19 At 2200 hrs, LIB (384) stationed at Kanyin Myai indiscriminately fired two 81mm mortar rounds and fourty small arm rounds to Sang Hkying Pa, in Mogoung township.
On March 19 between 0420-0600 hrs, KIA soldiers from 11th Battalion attacked Mayan 21-Mile Checkpoint and Artillery Unit Base (before IB (260) Base), in Mogoung township. At 0600 hrs, fighting broke out when KIA soldiers from 11th Battalion detonated IEDs at two trucks carrying around 50 Burma Army soldiers entering between old IB (260) base and Mile-19. KIA soldiers were attacked by two helicopters who circled six times. At 0830 hrs, seven trucks from Myitkyina and three trucks from Namti heading to Mile-21 to pick up their wounded soldiers.
On March 27 at 0250 hrs, a jet from southern division dropped a bomb at KIA 11th Battalion HQ and headed to southern Mogoung river, in Mogong township.
Bhamo Township
On March 20 at 0820 hrs, a truck carrying food ration and supplies coming from Manmaw (Bhamo) Ship Dock were attacked by KIA soldiers from 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade with a remote mine at Manmaw Mile-3 (LG 245 839) in Bhamo township.
Shan State, Burma
Kuthkai Township
On March 1 at 0620 hrs, around 70 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (109), coming from Manje, clashed with Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) soldiers from 504th Battalion at Bang Hpik road junction above Kawng Lim road (MG 211 182), in Kuthkai township.
Muse Township
On March 2 at 0810 hrs, around 60 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (420) coming from Nam Hkyet (old village) arrived at Lashap village, and the fighting broke out between 1030-1100 hrs, when they carried out an offensive on Yi Hku Bum (MG 109 460) where MNDAA soldiers from 505th Battalion, 511th Brigade were stationed, in Muse township. Burma Army soldiers from Mungbaw Maihpang Base fired 81mm mortar rounds to the clash site.
On March 14, MNDAA soldiers from 505th Battalion attacked a convoy of forty trucks carrying Burma Army soldiers, food ration and ammunition were attacked at coordinates: LG 981 482 near 105-Mile in Muse township.
On March 19 between 0855-0920 hrs, defensive fighting broke out when around 60 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (420) coming from Wing Seng carried out an offensive at Mankang Na Kawng (or) Gam Zaw Kawng (MG 167 565) where KIA soldiers from 36th Battalion were positioned, in Muse township. Burma Army troops reached Utu Kawng (MG 160 568) and set fire to the post huts.
On March 22 between 0700-0750 hrs, defensive fighting broke out when around 100 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (355) coming on foot from Nam Hkawng carried out an offensive to Nam Hkawng Man Nwi (MG 127 457, old village) where KIA soldiers from 38th Battalion were positioned, leaving four Burma Army soldiers dead and two wounded in Muse township. At 1510 hrs, the casualties were taken to Mai Hpang Base.
On Mar 28 at 1315 hrs, around 100 Tatmadaw soldiers from LIB (355) coming from Howa Man Kawng were attacked with two remote mines at Man Nawng Kawng (MG 122 488) by KIA soldiers from 36th Battalion, in Muse township. Burma Army soldiers reacted by firing mortar rounds with two shells landing in Lashap village. The Burma Army soldiers looted chickens and valuable possessions from civilians’ houses at Man Nawng Kawng, in Muse township.
Lashio Township
On March 5, three people were killed and eleven injured (mostly children) when the villagers in Hu Hkam near Mung Yaw played with an unexploded 105mm mortar shell in the vicinity fired from Burma Army soldiers, and it exploded. The injured were sent to Lashio hospital.
Manton Township
On March 13 at 0615 hrs, after hearing of a mine-explosion, Burma Army soldiers going to check their Phone Interception Station at Nawng Cho, were attacked with IEDs by combined forces of KIA 34th Battalion and PDF, in Manton township. Between 0830-1200 hrs, a clash broke out between combined forces of KIA 34th Battalion and PDF and Burma Army soldiers at Tat Set Bum. Burma Army soldiers supported their troops with 60mm mortar fire from Nawng Cho. At 1100 hrs, two helicopters strafed in five rounds cycling. Two PDF received minor injuries in the clashes.
On March 14 between 1030-1230 hrs, fighting broke out when around 100 Burma Army soldiers from IB (147) operating around Nawng Cho were attacked with two IEDs by combined forces of KIA 34th Battalion and PDF. Burma Army soldiers backed by 120mm mortar fire to the clash site from Nawng Cho, in Manton township.
Namtu Township
On March 28 at 1430 hrs, fighting broke out when between combined forces of KIA 8th Battalion and PDF with around 100 combined Burma Army troops under LID (101), coming from Nam Hkum (LF 213 615) who appeared on Nam Seng Hka, Sinli Kawng Ra (LF 246 649) in Namtu township.
On March 28, there were additional two clashes between around 150 Burma Army soldiers coming from Kung Kya (LF 265 624) and combined forces of KIA and PDF: once at Nam Seng Hka (LF 261 637) between 1643-1703 hrs and once on the outskirts of Sinli village (LF 261 649) between 1748-1810 hrs, in Namtu township.
On March 29 between 0600-0630 hrs, Burma Army soldiers arriving on the outskirts of Sinli Kawng Ra (LF 246 649) fired small arms, MA-15 and a 60mm mortar round, to the side of worship hill, in Namtu township.
Sagaing Region, Burma
Homalin Township
On March 2 at 1530 hrs, a combined 16 personnel of KIA and PDF, returning from patrolling around KIA 26th Battalion area, were ambushed at Numshang, Nammlit village (JH 990 825) by Shanni forces led by Sergeant Ak Soe, stationed at Namlit (JH 981 813), leaving two KIA soldiers with minor injuries to their arms, in Homalin township.
On March 14 at 1130 hrs, Homalin Military Security Affairs staff extorted Ks-2,000,000 from per logging block in Nawng pat village.
On March 24 between 0900-1500 hrs, around 30 Burma Army soldiers from IB (52) in five trucks stationed at Hkanti carried out checks in residents’ houses at Paw Mai village. From the search, 18 people connected with PDF were arrested in Homalin township.
Mar 25 at 1530 hrs, around 30 Burma Army soldiers from LIB (437) stationed at Homalin arrested a leader of demonstration, Kyaw Win, from his house.
Kata Township
On March 11 at 0700 hrs, around 80 Burma Army soldiers coming on foot from Kata were attacked with an IED near Nagu village, in Kata township.
On March 14 at 1330 hrs, two two-layered ships carrying around 100 Burma Army soldiers and supplies heading to Kata from Htichyai were fired upon by two 107mm mortar rounds at Zi Hpyu Kung (KG 263 659) between Nyawng Che Htauk and We Gyi, by KIA soldiers from 12th Battalion, in Kata township. The shells hit one of the ships, killing eight soldiers and wounding 18 others.
On March 27 at 0720 hrs, there was a clash between KIA soldiers from 5th Battalion and Burma Army soldiers at Sin Gung Dai near Chaung Wa, in Kata township.
